Counsel Introduction Scripts

With the introduction of the Provincial Court’s Notice to the Profession 24 and the Supreme Court’s Practice Direction 59, members have asked for a pronunciation guide along with examples of introductions and what can be put on the Supreme Court Appearance List when used.

Pronunciations

Mx. sounds like “mix.”

Ze sounds like “zee.”

Zir or Hir sounds like “zere,” rhymes with “here.”

Examples

My name is Gurpreet Mangat. My last name is spelled M-A-N-G-A-T. I use the pronouns she/her and can be addressed as Ms. Mangat or Counsel. I am Counsel for the Defendant, Mx. Aaron Bird who uses the pronouns they/them/theirs.

I am Frankel, initial J. My last name is spelled F-R-A-N-K-E-L. I use the pronouns he/him/his and can be addressed as Mr. Frankel or Counsel. I am counsel for ABC Corporation, the Third Party in this action.
