On May 16, the B.C. government passed the Legal Professions Act to regulate lawyers, notaries and paralegals under a single regulator.

Transition
The implementation of the Legal Professions Act involves establishing transitional bodies to work with the Law Society, the Notaries Society, and other partners to transition to a new single regulator. This includes a board, an Indigenous council, and an advisory committee. It is anticipated the transition process will take 18-24 months.

The Attorney General has also established a working group to make recommendations on what legal services a regulated paralegal should be able to provide to British Columbians.
