The Legal Professions Act to regulate lawyers, notaries and paralegals under a single regulator was passed on May 16, 2024. It is anticipated the transition process will take 18-24 months.

Meanwhile, the CBA has been approved to intervene in the Law Society’s and TLABC’s constitutional challenges to the Act. The summary trial hearing is set for Oct 13-31, 2025.
